OREMUS for March 14
O God, make speed to save us;
O Lord, make haste to help us.
Glory to you, O Champion of all Loves,
who for our sake endured the cross,
encountered the enemy and tasted death.
Glory be to you, O King of all kings,
who for our salvation
wrestled with principalities and powers,
subdued the forces of hell
and won the greatest of all victories.
To you be all praise, all glory and all love;
now and for ever. Amen.

In you, O Lord, have I taken refuge;*
let me never be ashamed.
In your righteousness, deliver me and set me free;*
incline your ear to me and save me.
Be my strong rock, a castle to keep me safe;*
you are my crag and my stronghold.
Deliver me, my God, from the hand of the wicked,*
from the clutches of the evildoer and the oppressor.
For you are my hope, O Lord God,*
my confidence since I was young.
I have been sustained by you ever since I was born;
from my mother's womb you have been my strength;*

O God, be not far from me;*
come quickly to help me, O my God.
Let those who set themselves against me
be put to shame and be disgraced;*
let those who seek to do me evil
be covered with scorn and reproach.
But I shall always wait in patience,*
and shall praise you more and more.
My mouth shall recount your mighty acts
and saving deeds all day long;*
though I cannot know the number of them.
I will begin with the mighty works of the Lord God;*
I will recall your righteousness, yours alone.
O God, you have taught me since I was young,*
and to this day I tell of your wonderful works.
And now that I am old and greyheaded, O God,
do not forsake me,*
till I make known your strength to this generation
and your power to all who are to come.
Your righteousness, O God, reaches to the heavens;*
you have done great things; who is like you, O God?
You have showed me great troubles and adversities,*
but you will restore my life and bring me up again
from the deep places of the earth.
You strengthen me more and more;*
you enfold and comfort me,
Therefore I will praise you upon the lyre
for your faithfulness, O my God;*
I will sing to you with the harp, O Holy One of Israel.
My lips will sing with joy when I play to you,*
and so will my soul, which you have redeemed.
My tongue will proclaim your righteousness all day long,*
for they are ashamed and disgraced
who sought to do me harm.
Give the king your justice, O God,*
and your righteousness to the king's son;
That he may rule your people righteously*
and the poor with justice;
That the mountains may bring prosperity to the people,*
and the little hills bring righteousness.
He shall defend the needy among the people;*
he shall rescue the poor and crush the oppressor.
He shall live as long as the sun and moon endure,*
from one generation to another.
He shall come down like rain upon the mown field,*
like showers that water the earth.
In his time shall the righteous flourish;*
there shall be abundance of peace
till the moon shall be no more.
He shall rule from sea to sea,*
and from the River to the ends of the earth.
His foes shall bow down before him,*
and his enemies lick the dust.
The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall pay tribute,*
and the kings of Arabia and Saba offer gifts.
All kings shall bow down before him,*
and all the nations do him service.
For he shall deliver the poor who cries out in distress,*
and the oppressed who has no helper.
He shall have pity on the lowly and poor;*
he shall preserve the lives of the needy.
He shall redeem their lives from oppression and violence,*
and dear shall their blood be in his sight.
Long may he live,
and may there be given to him gold from Arabia;*
may prayer be made for him always,
and may they bless him all the day long.
May there be abundance of grain on the earth,
growing thick even on the hilltops;*
may its fruit flourish like Lebanon,
and its grain like grass upon the earth.
May his name remain for ever
and be established as long as the sun endures;*
may all the nations bless themselves in him
and call him blessed.
Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel,*
who alone does wondrous deeds!
And blessed be his glorious name for ever!*
and may all the earth be filled with his glory.
FIRST READING [Genesis 6:17:5]:
When people began to multiply on the face of the ground, and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that they were fair; and they took wives for themselves of all that they chose. Then the Lord said, 'My spirit shall not abide in mortals for ever, for they are flesh; their days shall be one hundred and twenty years.' The Nephilim were on the earth in those daysand also afterwardswhen the sons of God went in to the daughters of humans, who bore children to them. These were the heroes that were of old, warriors of renown.
The Lord saw that the wickedness of humankind was great in the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of their hearts was only evil continually. And the Lord was sorry that he had made humankind on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. So the Lord said, 'I will blot out from the earth the human beings I have createdpeople together with animals and creeping things and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.' But Noah found favour in the sight of the Lord.
These are the descendants of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation; Noah walked with God. And Noah had three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
Now the earth was corrupt in God's sight, and the earth was filled with violence. And God saw that the earth was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted its ways upon the earth. And God said to Noah, 'I have determined to make an end of all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence because of them; now I am going to destroy them along with the earth. Make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and out with pitch. This is how you are to make it: the length of the ark three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits. Make a roof for the ark, and finish it to a cubit above; and put the door of the ark in its side; make it with lower, second, and third decks. For my part, I am going to bring a flood of waters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth shall die. But I will establish my covenant with you; and you shall come into the ark, you, your sons, your wife, and your sons' wives with you. And of every living thing, of all flesh, you shall bring two of every kind into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female. Of the birds according to their kinds, and of the animals according to their kinds, of every creeping thing of the ground according to its kind, two of every kind shall come in to you, to keep them alive. Also take with you every kind of food that is eaten, and store it up; and it shall serve as food for you and for them.' Noah did this; he did all that God commanded him.
Then the Lord said to Noah, 'Go into the ark, you and all your household, for I have seen that you alone are righteous before me in this generation. Take with you seven pairs of all clean animals, the male and its mate; and a pair of the animals that are not clean, the male and its mate; and seven pairs of the birds of the air also, male and female, to keep their kind alive on the face of all the earth. For in seven days I will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights; and every living thing that I have made I will blot out from the face of the ground.' And Noah did all that the Lord had commanded him.

SECOND READING [Mark 3:119]:
Again Jesus entered the synagogue, and a man was there who had a withered hand. They watched him to see whether he would cure him on the sabbath, so that they might accuse him. And he said to the man who had the withered hand, 'Come forward.' Then he said to them, 'Is it lawful to do good or to do harm on the sabbath, to save life or to kill?' But they were silent. He looked around at them with anger; he was grieved at their hardness of heart and said to the man, 'Stretch out your hand.' He stretched it out, and his hand was restored. The Pharisees went out and immediately conspired with the Herodians against him, how to destroy him.
Jesus departed with his disciples to the lake, and a great multitude from Galilee followed him; hearing all that he was doing, they came to him in great numbers from Judea, Jerusalem, Idumea, beyond the Jordan, and the region around Tyre and Sidon. He told his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, so that they would not crush him; for he had cured many, so that all who had diseases pressed upon him to touch him. Whenever the unclean spirits saw him, they fell down before him and shouted, 'You are the Son of God!' But he sternly ordered them not to make him known.
He went up the mountain and called to him those whom he wanted, and they came to him. And he appointed twelve, whom he also named apostles, to be with him, and to be sent out to proclaim the message, and to have authority to cast out demons. So he appointed the twelve: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter); James son of Zebedee and John the brother of James (to whom he gave the name Boanerges, that is, Sons of Thunder); and Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Cananaean, and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.

O God, source of love and compassion
in the suffering of all your children,
we offer our compassion also
for the hungry and the sick in body, mind, or heart;
the depressed and the lonely;
all living in fear and under stress;
all stricken in grief;
the unemployed and the rejected;
and those burning with hatred.
Strengthen us to work for their healing,
and inspire us to build with you
the kingdom of love
in which none will cause suffering to others
and all will be caring, loving children of yours,
our compassionate, all-embracing God,
ever present, ever loving,
never failing. Amen.
God of compassion,
you are slow to anger, and full of mercy,
welcoming sinners who return to you with penitent hearts.
Receive in your loving embrace all who come home to you.
Seat them at your bountiful table of grace,
that, with all your children, they may feast with delight
on all that satisfies the hungry heart.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Savior,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever. Amen.
Trusting in the compassion of God,
let us pray as our Savior taught us:

Help us, O Lord Jesus Christ,
to enter in your sorrows and to rejoice in your victory;
to embrace your cross and to wear your crown;
to receive the wounds of your love
and to behold you in glory and light;
for your own name's sake. Amen.
