O Lord, open our lips.
And our mouth shall proclaim your praise.
Blessed are you, merciful God;
in your boundless compassion,
you gave us your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord,
so that the human race created in your love,
yet fallen through its own pride,
might be restored to your glory
through his suffering and death upon the cross.
For these and all your mercies, we praise you:
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit:
Blessed be God for ever.
An opening canticle may be sung.
Let the righteous be glad and rejoice before God;*
let them also be merry and joyful.
Sing to God, sing praises to his name;
exalt him who rides upon the heavens;*
Yahweh is his name, rejoice before him!
Father of orphans, defender of widows,*
God in his holy habitation!
God gives the solitary a home
and brings forth prisoners into freedom;*
but the rebels shall live in dry places.
O God, when you went forth before your people,*
when you marched through the wilderness,
The earth shook and the skies poured down rain,
at the presence of God, the God of Sinai,*
at the presence of God, the God of Israel.
You sent a gracious rain, O God, upon your inheritance;*
you refreshed the land when it was weary.
Your people found their home in it;*
in your goodness, O God,
you have made provision for the poor.
The Lord gave the word;*
great was the company of women who bore the tidings:
Blessed be the Lord day by day,*
the God of our salvation, who bears our burdens.
He is our God, the God of our salvation;*
God is the Lord, by whom we escape death.
Your procession is seen, O God,*
your procession into the sanctuary, my God and my King.
The singers go before, musicians follow after,*
in the midst of maidens playing upon the hand-drums.
Bless God in the congregation;*
bless the Lord, you that are of the fountain of Israel.
There is Benjamin, least of the tribes, at the head;
the princes of Judah in a company;*
and the princes of Zebulon and Naphtali.
Send forth your strength, O God;*
establish, O God, what you have wrought for us.
Kings shall bring gifts to you,*
for your temple's sake at Jerusalem.
Rebuke the wild beast of the reeds,*
and the peoples, a herd of wild bulls with its calves.
Trample down those who lust after silver;*
scatter the peoples that delight in war.
Ascribe power to God;*
his majesty is over Israel;
his strength is in the skies.
How wonderful is God in his holy places!*
the God of Israel giving strength and power to his people!

A Song of the Holy City (Revelation 21:1-5a)
I saw a new heaven and a new earth,
for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away
and the sea was no more.
And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem,
coming down out of heaven from God,
prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
And I heard a great voice from the throne saying,
'Behold, my dwelling is with my people.
'I will dwell with them and they shall be mine,
and I myself will be with them.
'I will wipe away every tear from their eyes,
and death shall be no more.
'Neither shall there be mourning,
nor crying, nor pain any more,
for the former things have passed away.'
And the One who sat upon the throne said,

The Lord sets the prisoners free;

he sustains the orphan and widow,
but frustrates the way of the wicked.

Jesus left that place and entered their synagogue; a man
was there with a withered hand, and they asked him, 'Is
it lawful to cure on the sabbath?' so that they might
accuse him. He said to them, 'Suppose one of you has only
one sheep and it falls into a pit on the sabbath; will
you not lay hold of it and lift it out? How much more
valuable is a human being than a sheep! So it is lawful
to do good on the sabbath.' Then he said to the man,
'Stretch out your hand.' He stretched it out, and it was
restored, as sound as the other. But the Pharisees went
out and conspired against him, how to destroy him.

When to our world the Savior came
the sick and helpless heard his name,
and in their weakness longed to see
the healing Christ of Galilee.
That good Physician! Night and day
the people thronged about his way;
and wonder ran from soul to soul,
"The touch of Christ has made us whole!"
His praises then were heard and sung
by opened ears and loosened tongue,
while lightened eyes could see and know
the healing Christ of long ago.
Of long ago: yet living still,
who died for us on Calvary's hill;
who triumphed over cross and grave,
his healing hands stretched forth to save.
His sovereign purpose still remains
who rose in power, and lives and reigns;
till every tongue confess his praise,
the healing Christ of all our days.
